There was something special about the land in North Carolina and what was produced there. Fresh ingredients, hand-picked as needed — this allowed us to barely go into town. If there was a need for something or someone was ailing, we knew my Grandmother, Catherine Moore had a home remedy for it. As a child I looked on as she sprinkled baking soda in our sneakers, cleaned just about everything with vinegar or tied string to the windows, which I later learned was to keep the pigeons at bay. Who knew.
